April 2011, From the Editor
This magazine is for you!
My husband and I joked recently that we wanted to move to Canada — at least until the air clears and things shake out in Madison. Because no matter where you go someone is talking about what’s happening and everyone is trying to get you to think one way or another.
But while my husband and I may want to run from the controversy, it is impossible for CRW to shy away from it completely. For this reason, you’ll find that we have added a Capitol Report section. This editorial piece will serve as a place for news briefs of interest about the many issues facing Wisconsin’s state legislature.
We also jest that if we moved to Canada we’d save a ton on health insurance
premiums.
All kidding aside, health care costs are a serious matter affecting Wisconsin businesses and Wisconsin employees. CRW plans to devote more space to this important topic. We begin by examining the health care reform law and the 26-state lawsuit declaring it unconstitutional, and plan to follow up with a monthly health care column.
My husband and I also kid that it’s time to move deep into the Canadian forests where we can live off the land and be more environmentally sound.
While extremely drastic — and highly unlikely since I like the comforts of home and fear grizzlies — the reality is that everyone needs to become more sustainable. But as much as businesses need to think about becoming greener, they also should be considering where they fit in a greener economy.
Experts predict much of Wisconsin’s future job growth will come in the form of green jobs and green businesses. Why? Wisconsin has know-how in a surprising range of green business sectors, and smaller Wisconsin companies are already engaged in biomass, biofuels, wind, solar photovoltaic, geothermal, conservation technologies, green building design and construction, and more.
My husband and I don’t REALLY want to leave Wisconsin. It’s a beautiful place with so much to see and do and a quality of life that’s unparalleled.
Which is why in the future, CRW also hopes to devote more space to Wisconsin’s leisure side. One of our first editorial offerings will consider Wisconsin staycations. For this article, I’ll need a little help from you. Let me know what your favorite staycation is and why.
This is a tiny sample of the topics CRW plans to cover in the months to come. But there are likely many other issues you’d like to read about. Please, let me know what you would like to see within the pages of CRW. This magazine is for you!
